For Alouette, competing on the international stage in Columbus, Ohio was more than just a contest – it was a personal and musical milestone. Our goal was simple: to improve on last year’s performance and continue our growth as a quartet. We were thrilled to not only achieve that goal, but to exceed it – increasing our score by more than 100 points and rising to 28th in the world
Stepping onto the international stage felt different this time. The nerves were still there, but the experience was calmer and more centred. It didn’t feel as daunting; we had nothing to lose. From the first notes of This Can’t Be Love through to If I Had My Way, the performance felt warm and connected – a moment shared with friends rather than a vast, intimidating audience. This time we could really take in the whole room and enjoy the experience.
Another reason that this performance was so special: we had so many members of Circular Keys Chorus in the room with us, and it meant the world. Hearing and feeling the support from them – along with Redland Rhapsody Chorus and Skylark Quartet – filled us with so much love and pride. As we waited backstage for our introduction, we could hear them chanting "Aussie! Aussie! Aussie! - Oi! Oi! Oi!" and it was impossible not to smile. That moment will stay wth us forever.
Behind the scenes, the journey wasn’t without its challenges. But through the support of our amazing chorus community, generous donors, and friends from across the region, Alouette was able to make the trip and take the stage feeling supported, grateful and ready.
In the end, the score wasn’t the thing that filled our hearts the most. The real victory was feeling proud of what we sang, how we shared it, and who we did it with. We came away happy, connected, and inspired – and that’s the win we’ll carry forward.
