KnightRae Knight
Regional Events Coordinator, 2006-
Regional Convention Chair, 1992, 2000, 2004
Regent (RMT), 1995-1999
Treasurer (RMT), 1993-1995
Rae’s earliest musical memories go back to being perched on top of her
uncle’s piano at post-war parties, while he played jazz and boogie woogie and
family and friends sang along joyously. She may have been only a couple of years
old, but it was then that she picked up a ‘feeling’ for music.
During the fabulous fifties Rae was addicted to the radio and to movie
musicals – she saw Oklahoma at least six times! But joy of all joys when Bill
Haley and the Comets hit the airwaves, and then, young lives changed forever
when they heard “Elvis the Pelvis” on Saturday afternoon radio. Over the child
rearing and working years Rae’s musical tastes swung from Mozart to Joe Cocker,
from Ella Fitzgerald to Janis Joplin, and she has always found it hard to
identify her ‘favourite music’ when asked.
Rae found barbershop music in the 1980s and her life changed forever. Over 18
years she served Perth Harmony Chorus as costume chair, show chair, section
leader , music services chair and President; and during these years she also
worked for Region 34 as Finance Coordinator, Chair of Regional Convention and
Regent. She is pleased to be once again on the RMT and is planning some new and
exciting events for the region
Rae believes that music is such a universal language that if you are true to
yourself and embrace it in all its forms, you can communicate with everyone who
crosses your path.
