Convention
Since 2004, the Southern Cross Region has been holding
regional conventions annually, usually in May. The main focus of
convention is the competition. It's an opportunity for choruses
and quartets from all around the region to compete against each
other...and themselves!
There are four judges, judging in the categories of Music,
Sound, Expression and Showmanship. Choruses and quartets each
have three to six minutes to sing two songs, hopefully showing
off their best skills! Medals and ribbons are awarded to
choruses and quartets achieving a placing, and each group also
receives written feedback and both video and audio recordings of
their performances; excellent learning tools.
There are a whole host of other activities at convention each
year, including a quartet reception, 'Showcase of Champions'
where the winners strut their stuff, education classes and our
annual general meeting. Of course, there are also plenty of
opportunities for catching up with old friends, and spontaneous
singing!
